FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fifth Annual Festival Marks Three Landmarks for an Historic North Denver Neighborhood at Argo Park, 47th & North Logan, in Globeville.
On Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 July, the historic Globeville Neighborhood will take advantage of its fifth annual "Old Gobeville Days" Festival to celebrate three important anniversaries fir the neighborhood.
This year is the 120th Anniversary of the founding of the Town of Globeville, later to become a North Denver Neighborhood, by a group of Polish and Volga German Immigrants. This is also the sesquicentennial or 150th Anniversary of the City and County of Denver as well as the 110th birthday of The Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, the recently restored Historic centerpiece of the Globeville Neighborhood.
An Ethnic Food Festival, an arts and crafts show, games and cultural and historical displays, Historic tours as well as an unbroken parade of first quality ethnic singers dancers and bands from all over the world, will mark the time from 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. on Saturday July 19th and from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Sunday July 20th.
Widely acclaimed by internet critics and food writer for the variety and quality of the quinine prepared by representatives of the far-flung communities which have created the history of Globeville and of the Transfiguration Cathedral, the Food Festival has drawn ever growing crowds as those who attend one year, almost invariably return the next and bring others with them. The best dishes of Russia, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Greece, Eritrea, Old Mexico and of the Southwestern U.S. are served in portions that put the average food tasting festival to shame.
"Having endured many crises, ordeals and threats to its integrity in the past", Mrs. Paulete Hirsch, Neighborhood President, says, "The neighborhood is roaring back with a passion. Development surrounds us and is moving in our direction from every side and yet the neighborhood itself remains a sort of urban village in which stability and neighborliness are highly value and all of the neighbors take pride in supporting and standing up for each other."
The Orthodox Cathedral was the venue for two Saints of the Orthodox Church. Saint Tikhon of Moscow, visited Denver three times in the early 20th Century and consecrated the Temple as well as founding Russian, Greek and Serbian Communities in Denver, Calhan and Pueblo. Fr. Sabastian Dabovich, a candidate for canonization was an early Pastor of the Parish. Tis Temple has benefited from three "Sustainable Historical Preservation Grants" from The Colorado Historical Fund and plans to celebrate the consummation of these projects at the Festival.
The Event is cosponsored by The Globeville Civic Association, The Denver Neighborhood Resource Center, The Denver Foundation and the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral. There is no charge for the program and everyone is welcome.
